She Persisted

Written By: Haeeda Mubashar

She should have known better than to love
Her heart had been broken before,
torn in places she hadn’t even known existed
Frayed edges, fragile seams
Yet, she persisted

She should have known better than to trust,
to place her faith in something only she could see
The scales of give and take had always tipped, uneven
Promises whispered but never kept
Yet, she persisted

She should have known better than to believe
in the power of second chances
For what’s broken doesn’t always heal
And failures leave cracks hard to seal
Yet, she persisted

She learned to be stronger, wiser
To shield herself from the hurt
And bury the ache within
Though the scars still lingered
Still, she persisted
